What to Expect & Frequently Asked Questions
-
A first home visit for breastfeeding or lactation support is usually about 90 minutes. We’ll talk about your pregnancy and birth, including any relevant medical history, and I’ll ask questions about your breastfeeding experience to far. We’ll talk about any problems or concerns you’re dealing with, and I will observe a feed to help with latch and positioning if needed. I also bring a portable scale with me so we can check baby’s weight and measure how much milk is taken in during the feed. This visit is whatever you need it to be based on your family’s individual situation. Explore lactation visits →

I can help you with baby’s latch and nursing positioning, nipple pain, clogged ducts, milk supply, tongue tie and lip tie, weight gain issues, supplementing with formula or donor milk, GI issues in baby such as gas and fussiness, routines surrounding feeding and sleep, pumping and milk storage, fitting flanges, and routines for going back to work.
-
Not everyone needs follow-up, but follow-up support is helpful if we’re working on things like perfectly baby’s latch and reducing pain, adjusting milk supply, or monitoring baby’s weight gain. Many insurance plans cover several visits at no cost!

No judgment! When we discuss your feeding goals and individualized needs, my only focus is helping you work toward whatever feeding plan you feel is best for your baby and family. Every family is different.
If your baby needs supplementation, the most important thing is always to making sure baby gets enough to eat. Sometimes, formula is the answer. I can help you compare formula options and find what works best for your baby. If you’d like to look into donor milk, I can provide education and resources.

Prenatal visits are excellent for personalized education about breastfeeding and lactation, discussing any concerns you have specific to your own situation, and establishing care with an IBCLC—so that when you’re newly postpartum and needing support, you already have someone you can trust and call, and who understands your situation and goals. If I’m not in-network with your insurance plan, we can still work together. I will provide you with a document called a superbill, which is like an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I can’t guarantee reimbursement, but many families receive full reimbursement for lactation support. See more about insurance and pricing

When your baby is first born, they will see a medical provider within a few days of birth, if not sooner. Then they’ll have appointments at one week, two weeks, one month, and so on…so many visits! And so many opportunities to ask questions, check on how baby is doing, and work through ani issues that might be going on.
But after giving birth, most people don’t see a provider again until 6 weeks postpartum, sometimes with one visit in between. Meanwhile, you’ve just become a new person! You may have stitches or other healing wounds, rapidly changing hormones, a sore body, very little sleep, and many questions.
My postpartum support packages offer skilled care by a Registered Nurse to provide you with health support that fills that gap. You will receive personalized, compassionate, and calm care while you heal. To learn how to build a custom package to meet your needs, explore my postpartum services.
